Concert with Yalda Davis
Please call Beryl Dykes on 01284 704109
Yalda Davis is a talented cellist, daughter of the conductor Sir Colin Davis and she lives near Stowmarket. She is amazing person as she aims to play the cello in every church in the Diocese, allowing the churches to raise funds and providing us with great entertainment in the process. So far Yalda has, I believe, played in close to 400 churches in Suffolk.
“Yalda Davis and Rachel Chaplin have been friends since their teenage years in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Their musical journeys diverged while Rachel spent time specialising in historical oboes, performing with English Baroque Soloists, La Serenissima and other early music groups, and Yalda meanwhile delved into conservation work, running a B&B and her current project of playing the cello in all of Suffolk’s 500 medieval churches and writing a book about it. Happily the last few years have seen them playing together again, spurred on not least by a very special pigeon - more to be revealed during the concert!
Queen's Jubilee celebrations
Lackford Community Council will be holding the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration party in Lackford on the 4th June. Starting at around 3pm with entertainment for young and less young, we will enjoy an afternoon of celebration followed by a self-help meal. We will provide stocked and lit barbeques for cooking; residents can contribute their own food and something extra to share with others. Bill's bar will provide the lubrication and in the evening at 7pm, a Ceilidh dance with live music by the Skylarking Ceilidh band.
Timworth with will be raising a scone on behalf of her majesty as part of the Queens Jubilee celebrations. After their service on 5th June, they will be planting a tree around 10:30am - and afterwards, tea, coffee and cakes will be served in the church. If you would like to come along and you would like to bring some Royal memorabilia they will happily display it.
